Turkey, like all the other countries in the world, is struggling with coronavirus in these days and sticker measures has been announced by the government to keep the people at their homes to control the disease. On the other hand, the government has just allowed construction with newly issued regulation on protected areas as well as it gave green light to Kanal İstanbul Project despite the opposition of the public.

Cemal Gökçe, President of the Chamber of Civil Engineers (İMO), said that natural areas under protection were opened silently for construction in a period when the people were suffering with the coronavirus pandemic. ‘With the new regulation, natural areas obviously open for commercial activity as well as settlement’ he commented.

The first tender date for Kanal Istanbul (as a “crazy project” of President Erdoğan) has been announced as March 26, 2020. Two historical bridges situated on the main project area will be moved in 350 days and reconstructed with the new project. Excavations will be made around the bridge, and the start and end points will be determined. The firm that receive the tender will undertake the dismantling of the bridge, moving, reconstructing the building elements and completing the missing parts.
