« Turkey will continue to fulfil its responsibilities for continued peace and stability in the Black Sea, including the meticulous implementation of the Montreux Convention, the National Security Council said in a statement released after its March meeting » reports Ahval News.
Ankara will also continue efforts for mediation and peacemaking efforts, the council chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said.
The council expressed belief that “attacks must end at once and a ceasefire be established, and efforts to resolve issues between (Russia and Ukraine) in a permanent manner that favours the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine must be increased”.
The council also mentioned the Libyan conflict, saying the relative calm “established with great sacrifice” has been an “important gain and opportunity” for the Libyan people and warning against “steps that could spark clashes anew”.
“Our fight against terrorist organisations will continue,” the council said, regarding Turkey’s military operations in Northern Iraq against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), an armed and designated terrorist group that has been in conflict with Turkey for four decades.
“Latest developments have confirmed once again that Turkey’s determination to ensure its border security and protect its rights in the eastern Mediterranean, its balanced stance regarding the developments in the north of the Black Sea, its insistence to establish and maintain stability in the Balkans and Caucasus, and its efforts to ensure global and regional peace have been right,” the council said.
