While eight provincial municipalities won by the AKP in 2014 local elections have passed to the main opposition CHP, seven provincial municipalities of the party have been won by the MHP, which has formed the People’s Alliance with the AKP.
According to the unofficial results of the local elections held yesterday (March 31), 28 provincial municipalities have changed hands across Turkey.
Accordingly, while eight provincial municipalities have passed from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) to the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), seven other provincial municipalities of the party have passed to the candidates of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), which has formed the People’s Alliance with the AKP.
Moreover, three provincial municipalities won by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in 2014 local elections have passed to AKP; two provinces of MHP have passed to the CHP, one provincial municipality of MHP has passed to the HDP and one municipality of the MHP has passed to the AKP.
While one municipality of the HDP has passed to the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), one municipality of the CHP has been won by an independent candidate and one other municipality of the CHP has passed to AKP.
The provincial municipalities that have changed hands in the 2019 General Local Elections are as follows:
