13-year-old Turkish chess Grandmaster (GM) Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş beat chess legend Magnus Carlsen in a match in 41.2 seconds, Turkish media outlets reported on July 7.
The match between Erdoğmuş and Carlsen was played in an online blitz tournament. Blitz matches are played much faster than normal matches.
Erdoğmuş received the Grandmaster title when he was 12 years, 9 months, and 29 days old, becoming the fourth youngest chess player to receive the title. He is currently the youngest Grandmaster among active players according to the FIDE ratings.
Awarded by the International Chess Federation FIDE, Grandmaster is the highest title for a chess player, held for life.
Norwegian Magnus Carlsen is considered one of the best chess players of all time. He is a five-time classical chess world champion.
The number of Grandmasters in Turkey increased to 16 with Erdoğmuş.
